An introduction to Kinetica
Kinetika is a group of former professional athletes, with expertise in biomechanics, high-level sports, coaching, and learning, who are eager to share their knowledge and experience about mindfulness of movement.
Kinetika knows the simple complexities of movement affects how we move, which empowers us not only to protect our muscles and joints from injury and pain but also to optimize athletic performance.
Meeting the client
We first met our client, Liz, through a scheduled Zoom call. Our client already had a website but she pointed out to us that she had done everything on her own and felt that the whole site needed a full revamp. She felt that there was no clear direction to her site and that she needed a fully responsive site. Her main focus was on educating coaches (primarily volleyball coaches for now), and physical ed teachers on injury prevention for their team.
Problem
How to drive coaches, physical education teachers and athletes to learn about the proper movement to prevent sports injuries through programs, classes and consultations, clearly and understandably.
Goals
To drive conversion towards Teachable lessons and to provide an education platform
To Educate everyone on the importance of sports mechanics in injury prevention
Reorganize information architecture in a cohesive manner and improve user flow of the website
Increase sports biomechanics awareness and provide analysis consultations to specific athletes
Create a fully responsive website

Surveys • Comparative and Competitive Analysis
Surveys
Surveyed: 24 Users
Primary Users: coaches and physical
education teachers
Secondary Users: Students/Athletes
Coaches and physical education teachers survey results:
Have you ever heard of performance training?
How often do you deal with injuries with your students/players?
Do you provide any current education on injury prevention to your students/players?
Students/players survey results:
Have you ever been injured playing sports?
What do you do to prevent injuries?
What do you do to recover from an injury?
Have you heard of performance training?
Based on the results from both the surveys (more from the student surveys) we see that quite a few students/players had experienced injuries and that most students/players did not seek guidance from their coaches or teachers.

Creating a persona
Andrea McClusky
Andrea McClusky, a 28 year old avid athlete who was injured early on in her volleyball career. She is now a physical education instructor at Northern Secondary School in Midtown Toronto. She enjoys an active healthy lifestyle and enjoys teaching her students about the importance of a healthy life.
Her frustrations:
Lack of knowledge for injury prevention
No platform for easy teaching tips
Her potential opportunities:
Teaching proper form, technique and movement
Making sure players warm-up and stretch before playing and watch for risky movements that may cause injury
Follow a credible source online that can teach via online courses and tutorials on proper form so that correct ways to prevent injuries can be taught to her students
Her goals:
Wants to live a healthy lifestyle while living her best life
Wants to share the importance of a healthy lifestyle with her students
Her motivations:
To promote a healthy lifestyle
To prevent injury through education
To help people live to their full potential
Feature prioritization
We made a simple chart to outline what features were useful to users and what was the risk or cost factors in developing these features.
Site map
Having a site map made it easy for us to break down what links and features needed to go on which page.

Mid-fi - prototype • User testing • Hi-fi • Future consideration
Midway mark mid-fi
Our client unfortunately did not provide us with content, which made naming conventions and content explanation a lot more difficult, as we had to add in a lot of Loren Ipsum. Regardless, we continued our work to the best of our abilities. We created 3 versions of the website; Desktop, mobile and tablet.
Key issues that we were able to resolve through our design
Easy navigation
Courses and workshops directing to Teachable. As well as live classes added
A way to get a consultation
Social media links
Vlogs to keep the site fresh with content
Sign up for the newsletter
Added sponsors
User testing
Once we were done creating the mid-fis it was time to create a prototype and test it on some users. We received the following feedback:
Testimonials
A section for testimonials was added to the homepage to support credibility.
Donations
A donation section was added to the ‘About’ page as well as in the footer of the website.
Contact Information
We added it to the footer of the website for easy access.
Sports Consultation
The ‘Sports Analysis’ page renamed to ‘Sports Consultation’ to provide a clear understanding of what is being offered.
High intensity hi-fi
The design for the site was ready. With the combination of the research and planning of the UX Designers and the aesthetics and methodology of the UI Designer, we were able to come up with a well thought out and pleasing final design.
Future consideration
E-commerce
Once Kinetika has products that are ready to be shipped.
Live video chat
Consultations for users to easily and quickly get in contact with Kinetika.
Search
Once the courses increase, a search bar would be helpful on the site.
Conclusion
Finally, we came up with a well planned out, fully revamped responsive website, with everything the client asked for and everything our users may need on the site. We were able to make the navigation simple and have a smooth transition to each page. We made it user friendly where any coach or physical education professional as well as athletes can easily find courses, live classes and workshops. By doing so we gave an informative and accessible way to prevent users from injuries. With a highly professional look and feel, our client was very pleased with the overall presentation and execution of the site.
Learning outcome
What a unique experience this was, as we were in a worldwide pandemic. Having COVID was a big obstacle in our face, constantly. With many people feeling the lack of motivation and a sense of unsureness, I was able to take advantage of this time to complete a fully remote job. Although it was difficult at times because communication with my colleagues and my client were sometimes not so straight forward and easy, I was able to still take charge and make sure the job was done and done well. Having little to no content provided by my client was also a big eye-opener. It showed me that you sometimes just have to go with what you have and not everything is going to be cookie-cutter perfect. This gave me a great pathway to find new and innovative ways to present my work while still maintaining a relatively understandable and comprehensive outcome.
